Bio
It's only a matter of time before the world is talking about Gotti J if they not ready doing so. His lyrical skills and freestyle flow have caught the attention of many hip hop heavy hitters like N.O.R.E, Little Brother, Small World, Dr. Dre, The Game, D.G Yola and Capone. "This kid's fire" says rapper 9th Wonder who heard him rap for the first time at Aftermath Studios In Durham. He even co-hosted a radio show. All by the age of 18. Fresh off the block, with his debut single "Dope Girl," (Aftermath/ N-4-Red Records) Gotti J rocks the mic with the style and swagger of a young Jay-Z; the addicitive hook and playful rhymes keeps young and old entertained. Raised by both mother and father on Eleven Hundred Block in Burlington North Carolina, Je'an-Mychal Thorpe, simply know as Gotti J, started out like many other children. He would listen to the radio, memorize the rhymes of his favorite artists and perform them for his family. His grandmother (Kathalean Hendrix) often encouraged him. One day Gotti J took pen to paper and wrote his own raps expressing his feelings about her. "She inspired me", said then the 12th grader. "My grandmother introduced me to Jesus." The song entitled "My Love Only" caused his father, Juan Thorpe, to realize that his son had a gift. A chance meeting put Gotti J in front of record mogul Tedd Fields where he dazzled him with his freestyle flow. Fields put him in a Photographer to jumpstarted his modeling career. Fields also put him in the studio and encouraged him to create a mixtape. Gotti J continued to write rhymes and Juan moved forward to put together a mixtape for him. "I'm Only 19 generating the type of buzz in 2008 reserved for stars in the making." He is also dropping a new mixtape entitled " Audio Therapy" due in the early summer of 2008. Gotti J performs with a confidence and assurance rarely seen in his age group and defies comparison. Lyrical and Real are how Gotti J describes his music. He hopes it will inspire other kids to stay in school and to always believe in themself, "because you are your own answer." While Christianity is a running him, throughout his music, it doesn't overshadow it. "He's a Christian child who lost his nephew at a young age and decided to express his feelings through hip hop." explains his father. Gotti J frequently performs for free, or a low price at club concerts. Radio personality Russ Paul was so impressed by Gotti J that he made him the co-host of Hot 97.5 and 107.9 in Durham, NC. Gotti J created a forum where kids could call in and fans, old and new school, began to tune in. He soon caught the ear of Interscope head Dr. Dre from Aftermath Entertainment and is in talks of signing to a deal. This is only the first act for Gotti J. When he says "In five years I want to be a movie star, superstar and the greatest of all time," - at the rate he's going, it will soon happen
